Portable Planetarium

Overview

Bring the Planetarium to your school or event!

The portable planetarium is a portable version of our big planetarium! We have a small projector and an inflatable dome we can set up at your location. You step through the door and sit on the floor. For those who are not able to go through the main door, we can lift the side of the dome for entry as well.

The dome can fit up to about 20 adults or up to about 30 kids at a time. Typically we do live shows about the night sky for 10-30 minutes at a time, depending on the group. However, we can talk about different astronomical topics to match specific events or curricular needs. 

Space Requirements

We have specific requirements where we can set up the portable planetarium, so please ensure you meet the these before booking. We require that the space

• is Indoors
• has at least 30 feet by 30 feet floorspace
• has vertical clearance of 13 feet. This includes clearance of any fixtures hanging from ceilings
• access to the space 1 hour before the first show and 30 minutes after the last show
• has access to two standard Type B outlets (see image below)

Availability

Availability is based on staffing and decided on a case by case basis. We can be available weekdays, weekday evenings, and weekends.

 

Pricing

Pricing is based on the length of the program and your location being within 30 miles of the Abrams Planetarium. We are happy to discuss coming out to more distant locations for additional fees, but we also encourage you to look toward and support your more local planetariums as well!

• Each Additional hour - $75
• Locations greater than 30 miles - starting at and an additional $100
